What to pack for a ski season
This is by no means a definitive list. For one, it doesn’t include warm clothing or ski gear, which is pretty important for living in a ski resort. What I have listed however, is all those items you wouldn’t initially think about, but will find they’re vital to your sanity and happiness during a ski season.
- Socks, as many as possible – There’s nothing worse than being cold and finding that all your socks are wet. You can never have too many socks.
- Painkillers – If you’ve never skied before, all those falls you have learning are going to hurt and you’ll need relief.
- A beer jacket – It’s probably not what you think. A beer jacket is an old jacket you wear to the pub each night. If it gets stolen or taken by mistake (which is common) it’s not a big loss.
- A taste of home – There will be those days you feel a bit shitty and all you want is a Tim Tam.
- First aid kit – No traveler should be without one.
- Duct tape – It’s a long season and your gear will need some basic upkeep.
- Antibiotics – Living and working in close quarters, cold climate, being coughed on by tourists, there’s a high chance of getting a nasty infection.
- A spare bank card – I lost mine and getting a replacement from Australia was a massive pain.
- Earplugs – There’s always a snorer.
- Chap stick – Cracked lips are the worst and in cold climates, it’s pretty common.
And of course, you will need to put all this in a really good backpack!
What have I missed? Feel free to leave your suggestions in the comments below.
